Along the way to totality, layer on insights into ancient Egypt and astronomy through your LECTURES program. Dr. Denise Doxey, Egyptologist and Curator of Ancient Egyptian, Nubian, and Near Eastern Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, provides cultural and historical context, fueling your Aha! moments up and down the Nile. While Dr. Kevin Marvel, astronomer and Executive Officer of American Astronomical Society, talks eclipses and ancient Egyptian constellation spotting.
Plus, Insight Cruises offers you an optional program of excursions to a choice selection of the Nile River region’s monuments, temples, and tombs. We’ll be on the lookout for specific astronomical features, while visiting other sites not tied to the sky yet still looming large in the world’s imagination. Luxor and Karnak temples, the Valleys of the Kings & Queens, the wondrous sites of Dendara, Abydos, Esna, Edfu, Kom Ombo, and more are on our excursion agenda.

Pricing for a Standard Cabin (slide show) on our 6-night cruise (plus two pre-cruise hotel nights in the Mövenpick Resort Aswan — for a total of 8 nights) is $4,350 per person, based on double occupancy. Add on our optional 5-day TOURING PACKAGE: $2,650 for 15 separate site visits (four of which require “special access” permits); plus $95 for your professional/Egyptologists’ gratuities. The groups will be small (where necessary, as in visiting deeply buried sites, no more than a dozen or so people) with one professional/Egyptologist tour guide per group. The price includes all entrance fees — some quite substantial for the unique access we will provide — as well as “gifts” for official gatekeepers, are included.
The six (6) 90-minute cocktail-parties package (includes an open bar) is an additional $210 pp. Add’l pp fees: Non-refundable Booking Service Fee ($175), tour leader gratuities ($80), and cruise and hotel gratuities (for the housekeeping, cabin stewards, and dining room staff, $15 per day or $120).
